"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O'Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands." (Psalms 138:8).
God has a purpose and a plan for each one of us and will fulfill it. God has created us each with a specific wiring that only we have. He made us so that we can write, paint, sing, run, or do whatever we do in a way only we could ever do. This is what makes God's story for each of us so beautiful. He uses broken people that he loves dearly to fulfill his perfect plan. Isn't it beautiful that a perfect God uses broken people in his perfect story? To me that is crazy because broken+ broken should not equal perfect, but to God it's the perfect equation for his purpose. God used Rahab the prostitute to save the spies in Jericho from being seen and she was later in the genealogy lineage of Jesus-one of the few women to be written in it! Rahab put her life on the line for these spies and trusted that it was the right thing to do. She did not know the outcome, but trusted that God had a purpose and was going to use her even though she was a prostitute (Joshua 2).
God uses broken people who do not have everything together more than those that think they do. Look throughout the Bible, how many people does God use that have their crap together? Abraham and Sarah were old, Moses stuttered, David was chased for a long time and made some wrong decisions, Jonah ran, the disciples were tax collectors, fisherman, and low status individuals, and Paul was a Jesus-hater! Annie F. Downs said "Read these stories again, but his time as if you don't know the outcome. This way you will connect with the struggles these people faced." Look back at these stories and look at how broken these people were, yet God used them. These people knew they were broken, but they trusted God to used them despite of their brokenness.
God does not want people who look like they have all their stuff in order because honestly if you look like that you're lying to yourself. We are broken and will not be perfect until we reach heaven. God wants to use us within our brokenness. He does not want perfection, he wants us. We cannot lie to ourselves any longer that we will be any better 3 years down the road and then, yes, then I will be ready for God to use me. The fact is we will be slapped for 3 years with the brokenness of the world waiting, why not be slapped with it with God holding you? We are never really "ready" in our eyes to be used by God because our vision of ready is perfect. What if we took away the vision that we have to be perfect to be used by God and see that we just need to be broken and open to God? What would happen if we stopped running from God in the midst of our brokenness and instead ran TO Him in our brokenness? What if we started praying with genuine yearning to be used by God within our brokenness? What if we saw brokenness as a signal to lay it all out for God?
Friends, we are broken and have a lot of things that come our way and we think we have to put on a mask and be perfect in front of God. Let me tell you God is the last person you should have to act perfect for because 1. He already knows what is going on 2. He is the one who can help us within the brokenness and 3. He uses broken people daily to further His Kingdom. Broken people are God's people. Broken people in my opinion are God's favorite.
